A tense situation in Pittsburgh's East Liberty neighborhood was diffused last night when a woman with a criminal warrant was taken into custody after a standoff with SWAT. The standoff brought a heavy police presence to the 5400 block of Stanton Avenue. It required neighboring residents to hastily evacuate their homes, as the woman had reportedly barricaded herself inside an apartment and was believed to be armed, according to WPXI.
Pittsburgh Public Safety indicated that law enforcement responded to the scene after receiving a report concerning a woman who had locked herself inside her apartment and may have had a weapon. The situation necessitated some nearby residents being forcefully removed from their dwellings to ensure their safety. After the incident, a pit bull was found alone in an apartment. Animal Care & Control was called to take care of the dog safely.
