Last night, a collision involving a Columbus Police cruiser and two civilian vehicles resulted in injuries, and the Columbus Police Department's Accident Investigation Unit continues to sift through the aftermath. The incident occurred yesterday, just before the witching hour, with officers engaged in clearing an earlier accident.
Per the details shared in a media release from the Columbus Division of Police, the sequence unfolded on Cleveland Ave at Blendon Woods Blvd, where a disabled Honda, under the watchful guard of cruiser #14, was being prepped for removal. In a turn of fate, a southbound Mercury Montego, the model dating back to 2006, collided head-on with the Honda, even with the police presence as a witness.
The violence of the crash was such that it resulted in the hospitalization of the involved officer and the two adult occupants of the Mercury. Columbus Fire Medic units #6, #806, and #24 responded promptly, transporting the injured parties to Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital and Riverside Methodist Hospital, all reported in stable condition. The night was undoubtedly fraught, the stillness pierced by sirens and the solemnity of medical professionals ensuring the survival of our communal guardians and neighbors.
