Residents and commuters in Citrus Heights experienced an unusual disruption when a significant police operation temporarily closed Sunrise Boulevard on Monday night, stretching into the early hours of Tuesday. According to a KCRA 3 report, the Citrus Heights Police Department and Sacramento County Sheriff's detectives responded to an incident resulting in the shutdown of Sunrise Boulevard at Oak Avenue.
Drivers were advised to seek alternative routes to avoid the closed section of Sunrise Boulevard near Oak Avenue, while KCRA 3 reached out to the Citrus Heights Police Department for more information. As early as 6 a.m. on Tuesday, the details of the incident remained closely guarded.
The extended police presence further impacted areas closer to Sunrise Boulevard and Old Auburn Road. CBS13 reported that officers on the scene instructed their news crew to stay back due to reports of a man potentially armed with a gun on a building. This same incident prompted the evacuation of nearby apartments.
Citrus Heights police confirmed they are investigating a situation but didn't share many details. The local community, rerouted and kept away, could only guess what was happening. More information is expected to come out soon, explaining the events that caused such a disruption in the area.
