A week after a man was fatally struck in Pompano Beach, police have made an arrest in the case. Willian Eduardo Beltran Velasquez, 31, has been charged with failing to stop at an accident involving death and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, Local 10 reported.

The incident took place early in the morning on Sunday last week, when Don Larkin, 43, was hit along the 1700 block of North Dixie Highway. Left in the road, the car parts found by deputies led to a Nissan Rogue, suggesting the involvement of such a vehicle in the crash.

According to investigators, the victim's body was discovered around 4:15 a.m. that morning. Beltran Velasquez was subsequently arrested following the identification of the car parts and the vehicle itself, which officials located in Coral Springs sporting damages consistent with the collision. He remains in custody with an immigration hold preventing the possibility of bond, as NBC Miami confirms.

In a statement to Local 10, Don Larkin's mother, Annie, expressed her deep sorrow, saying, "He was the best and a good guy." She emphasized the importance of responsibility after an accident, stating, "If you hit a person, the least you can do is stop and see what happened." Beltran Velasquez has been charged following the incident.

Annie told NBC Miami, "They left him laying there like that, didn’t stop to see what had happened. It’s rough, all I can say." She also shared that her son was a father of five and described him as a good person who meant no harm and just wanted to live his life.
