In Portland, a 5-year-old English Springer Spaniel named Odin is recovering after being accidentally impaled by a 12-inch stick in his family's backyard. On September 22, his owners heard a yelp and found the stick lodged in his chest. With quick action from his owners and care at DoveLewis Animal Hospital, Odin is recovering and receiving support from the local community.
According to a report by FOX 12, Dr. Stacy Montgomerie, a veterinarian at DoveLewis, commented that Odin's owners responded correctly when they noticed his injury, emphasizing that immediate action is often crucial in such emergencies.
The team at DoveLewis Veterinary Emergency Hospital quickly took action, as KOIN reports. The stick, which was located just beneath Odin's skin, required surgery for its removal. They also ensured that any small splinters or debris that could lead to infection or further injury were carefully extracted, providing thorough treatment.
Odin narrowly escaped a serious outcome, resulting in a positive prognosis. He was fortunate to avoid more invasive surgeries like a thoracotomy or limb amputation, as per KATU.
DoveLewis emphasized the importance of creating a safe environment for pets and highlighted that such incidents remind pet owners of safety measures to prevent future injuries. Odin's resilience and the expertise of veterinary professionals showcase the strong bond between humans and animals, celebrated with each successful recovery.
