Portland, known for its strong sports culture and enthusiastic fan base, is gearing up once again to play host to the NCAA women's basketball tournament. For the second time in recent years, the Moda Center will be the battleground for the regional rounds in the upcoming 2028 tournament.

Following a successful stint in 2024, where the Rose City saw powerhouses NC State and UConn advance to the Final Four amidst thrilling Sweet 16 games, local anticipation has continued to bubble. According to KGW, Portland isn't just stopping there, also slated to host the eminent Women's Final Four in 2030.

This decision, as reported by OregonLive, is part of the NCAA's move to select cities that are considered "epicenters of the sport." NCAA Vice President of Women's Basketball Lynn Holzman cited these locations' "proven track record of hosting successful events" and the necessary infrastructure to support the championship's expansion. Alongside Portland, the Capitol One Arena in Washington, D.C. will share hosting duties, marking its first involvement since 1997. Each city will present fans with six regional championship games.

Scott Leykam, the University of Portland's athletic director, shared his enthusiasm for the city's continued role as a promoter of women's sports. In a statement obtained by KOIN, Leykam said, "In conjunction with hosting the NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Four in 2030, the University of Portland continues to further its legacy as a champion of women’s sports and women’s basketball in the city." He went on to express gratitude towards partners like Sport Oregon, the Portland Trail Blazers/Rose Quarter, Travel Portland, and the City of Portland, acknowledging their roles in bringing the event to life.
