The new investments focus on two key projects: the Cottages of Idlewild and renovations for the Studios at 2800, according to the City of Raleigh's official housing news.
The decision to approve the first affordable "cottage court" in Raleigh is now taking shape with the City Council's authorization of $1.26 million for the construction of 18 affordable homes in the Idlewild community. These homes, consisting of 14 for sale and 4 for rent, are promised to remain affordable for a span of 99 years, as mentioned by the City of Raleigh.
On the renovation front, the City’s purchase of a 119-room hotel on Brentwood Road in 2021 has resulted in the creation of the Studios at 2800, a mixed-use property that offers extended-stay rooms and affordable housing units. The City Council’s latest action involves committing $1 million for essential repairs, including upgrades to plumbing, heating systems, and electrical work, as well as the installation of new doors and windows. On Tuesday, the Council approved the contract with Shepherd Response, LLC, as reported by the City of Raleigh.
