A Rochester Hills physician, already embroiled in legal troubles for covertly filming at a local swim school, has been slapped with 17 additional felony charges on suspicions of sexually assaulting and recording a 6-year-old child. Dr. Oumair Aejaz, the doctor in question, faces allegations of sexual crimes involving a minor that reportedly took place across multiple dates in 2023 and 2024. The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office states the new charges include severe offenses, such as two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, which carry significant penalties if a conviction is secured.
The information, initially disseminated by The Detroit News, details that the accused had been arrested on previous charges related to child sexually abusive activity and usage of computers to commit a crime, crimes that reportedly spanned from 2020 to 2023. These recent charges arise amidst an ongoing investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, which fears there could be many more victims akin to the disgraced Michigan State University sports doctor, Larry Nassar.
Communicated by The Detroit News, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald highlighted the grim prospect of further victims, urging anyone with information to reach out to their office. Sheriff Michael Bouchard painted a disturbing picture of the extent of Aejaz's alleged activities, which included assaults on unconscious hospital patients and minors in environments as innocuous as swim schools. Bouchard referred to Aejaz as a man whose sickness knew no bounds.
According to the official statement issued by Oakland County, the myriad of new charges against Aejaz comprise various felonies that carry hefty punishments, including lifetime imprisonment, hefty fines, and mandatory lifetime electronic monitoring. The accused currently remains in the Oakland County Jail, with the legal system proceeding under the presumption of innocence until guilt is possibly proven. While Aejaz awaits his fate, the repercussions of his alleged actions continue to ripple through the community, with two young women already taking civil action against him and class action lawsuits piling up from those he purportedly victimized.
