A high-speed chase in Somersworth concluded with a crash and one individual in custody last night. New Hampshire State Police reported that Trooper Jacob Benjamin of Troop A observed a Dodge Challenger exceeding the speed limit by more than three times on Route 108 and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver, identified as 42-year-old Michael P. Ruest of Rochester, did not comply and proceeded to lead police on a dangerous chase.

As Ruest attempted to flee, his driving became increasingly reckless, and he collided with another vehicle while attempting to pass on the right shoulder. Although the crash caused only minor property damage and no injuries were reported, Ruest ultimately lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a fence near Willard Road. According to a statement from the New Hampshire State Police, both Ruest and his adult female passenger were unharmed.

Ruest faced several charges, including reckless conduct, reckless operation, and disobeying a police officer, among others. Additionally, further investigation by the Troopers revealed that he was wanted by the Lee Police Department for possession of controlled drugs. Ruest declined bail and was held at the Strafford County Department of Corrections awaiting his arraignment.

The New Hampshire State Police were assisted on the scene by members of the Somersworth Police Department. Authorities are requesting anyone with more information to contact Trooper Jacob Benjamin at (603) 271-3636.
