Last night, a domestic dispute turned hazardous for a responding police officer in Rochester, leading to an arrest and a severe injury. At approximately 10:36 p.m., officers were summoned to a disagreement on Monroe Street, as reported by WPXI. The altercation involved a couple identified as Andrea and Andrew Pyne; while the officers were attending to the dispute, an injury of a grave nature was sustained by one of the officers.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers entered the apartment at the invitation of Andrew Pyne. It was during this intervention that the domestic dispute escalated to violence against law enforcement. An officer's hand became trapped by a door, slammed shut by Andrea Pyne, leading to the loss of his finger at the first knuckle, as per WTAE. Both Andrea and Andrew Pyne are now in custody and have undergone questioning concerning the incident.
In the wake of the altercation, Andrea Pyne justified her actions, implying a twisted logic in the rights of entry for law enforcement into her residence. "He did not have rights to be inside her home," she reportedly told police, eluding to why she closed the door on the officer's hand. According to WTAE, Andrea also admitted to physically assaulting her boyfriend before the police arrived because he refused to prepare dinner for her.
Currently, Andrea Pyne faces several charges that include aggravated assault and reckless endangerment of a person. The Rochester Police have reported that the injured officer, while not shot, is receiving treatment at a local hospital — no updates yet on their condition.
