
A tragic traffic incident claimed the life of a man on McKnight Road in Ross Township, with officials from the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office identifying the victim as 61-year-old William D. McClendon. According to reports by WPXI, McClendon was fatally struck by a vehicle while trying to cross near the Inn Town Suites. The accident resulted in significant traffic disruptions, causing closures on the southbound lanes between Babcock Blvd and Ivory Avenue. In contrast, northbound traffic narrowed to a single lane from West View Avenue.
Ross Township Police dispatched first responders to the scene around 9 p.m. following the incident on Friday night. Deputy Chief Brian Kohlhepp noted that the victim was in the southbound lanes when he was hit, as detailed in a report by WTAE. The collision led to the closure of southbound McKnight Road while police conducted their investigation, and there were no reports of other injuries. The vehicle involved remained at the scene when reporting crews arrived.
The accident is still under investigation, and authorities have yet to share details about what happened. Local police are gathering evidence and encouraging witnesses to come forward.
