The Regional Transportation District (RTD) has taken a step forward in its internal hierarchy by appointing Dr. Glynell Horn Jr. and Steven Martingano as acting co-chiefs of its police department, an announcement cleared by RTD CEO Debra A. Johnson, according to Denver7. The pair assumed their new roles immediately Friday morning, and they are bridging the leadership gap as the agency embarks on a national search for a permanent chief, which they hope to conclude in early 2025.
Dr. Horn Jr., who has carved out a 15-plus year tenure in law enforcement starting in the Houston area, joined the RTD ranks in 2023 and has been noted for championing personal safety and security through community engagement, he also brings to the table a Ph.D. in leadership and change from Antioch University, as KDVR reports. Martingano, a veteran with a 32-year stint in law enforcement, has been part of the RTD police force since 2015 and stepped up to the deputy chief plate in 2017, lending his seasoned perspective to the table.
In an express vote of confidence, CEO Johnson lauded the duo's cumulative 45 years of law enforcement experience and commitment to perpetuating RTD's dedication to safety and a welcoming transit environment, as noted by 9News. Both Horn and Martingano affirmed their devotion to RTD's mission and their collective effort to foster safe transit circumstances, emphasizing the cohesion and dedication of RTD's staff, both sworn and unsworn, to the notion of one unified RTD.
Horn expressed his gratitude for this chance to influence and improve the community, "As we navigate this transition together, I can confidently affirm that both our sworn and professional staff are fully dedicated to ensuring there’s a safe and welcoming environment for our employees and customers," he said, as per 9News. Martingano echoed these sentiments, noting his enthusiasm for steering the RTD Police Department's progress and applauding the officers and support staff for their professionalism, which he expects to continue unwaveringly as they move forward to fresh leadership.
