Eighteen years ago, on October 27, 2006, Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputy Jeffrey Mitchell was killed while on patrol. Deputy Mitchell stopped a white Chevrolet van and made his last radio call about it. When Dispatch received no response, backup was sent. They found him fatally wounded, shot with his own service weapon after an incident, as reported by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a post from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office on their Facebook page, they marked the anniversary of Deputy Mitchell's murder and acknowledged the ongoing search for his killer. The post stated, "To this day, we still do not know what happened on that fateful night." The investigation involved hundreds of law enforcement personnel, but the identity of Mitchell's assailant remains unknown.
Deputy Mitchell's legacy continues through those seeking justice for him. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office says detectives are "still diligently working this heinous crime."
