Sacramento is set to unveil 'Hanami,' a new public art installation at Robert T. Matsui Waterfront Park. On October 23, when the city’s Office of Arts and Culture will host a culturally immersive event from 5:30 to 7 p.m., according to the Sacramento City Express. The art unveiling allows the community to engage with creators Jennifer Madden and Jeffrey Reed of Reed + Madden Design. Registration is required to attend this free event.

Inspired by the Japanese tradition of hanami, which celebrates the fleeting bloom of cherry blossoms, the installation aims to provide more than just visual appeal. Donald Gensler, Art in Public Places Manager, states, "This piece not only highlights the beauty of nature but also serves as a powerful reminder of the fleeting moments we share as a community," a statement obtained by the Sacramento City Express. The evening will also feature taiko drum performances and remarks from local dignitaries.

The event will include a presentation by the artists. The Hanami Line is not just an installation; it serves as a community gathering space with "Pink Flair" cherry trees, native landscaping, and seating for visitors year-round. It is also expected to become a venue for annual cherry blossom festivals. The creation of this serene spot is a testament to collaboration, with funding provided by the Sacramento Tree Foundation, the City of Sacramento, Caltrans Clean California Grant, UC Davis Health, and numerous philanthropic endeavors.
