An armed robbery at Chando's Tacos, a popular Sacramento eatery, has shocked the community. The Sacramento Police Department is investigating the incident that occurred at night earlier this week just before closing. Surveillance footage captured the moment when an employee was assaulted and the cash register was stolen.
According to abc10 report, owner Lisandro Madrigal, who has run Chando's Tacos without incident for over a decade, said, “I think everybody's a little shaken up.” Madrigal shared surveillance footage showing the violent incident where the cashier was hit multiple times with a pistol. The video also shows the attacker grabbing the cash register and fleeing. Madrigal instructed his employees to prioritize their safety over money, advising them, “Let them take it. Take whatever they want; it’s not worth protecting a measly few bucks when our lives are worth more.”
Witnesses described the suspect as a lean man about 5'6" tall with light skin and green eyes, believed to be in his late teens to early twenties. Madrigal decided to release the footage in hopes of identifying the perpetrator, stating, "He hurt somebody; I want this person caught. It’s not cool,” in the same report.
Following the traumatic event, community support for Chando's Tacos surged. Customers expressed their dismay and encouraged others to help in identifying the suspect. One patron told abc10, "It breaks our heart to see something like that happen."
In a show of solidarity, another customer left a generous tip. Brian Lopez, voicing support for the Latino-owned business, said, “It's very disappointing to hear that they went through that and, you know, as a Latino-owned business, I would really like to support them and make sure that they're not impacted by that,” in a statement obtained by KCRA.
Currently, no arrests have been made, and the Sacramento Police have not released additional suspect information beyond what witnesses provided. The investigation is ongoing.
