After years of questions and a seemingly stalled investigation, a suspect has finally been charged with the 2018 murder of Tammy Fudge. The San Antonio Police Department announced that 30-year-old Christopher Allen, who is already incarcerated in Miami-Dade, Florida, for unrelated crimes, has now been accused of killing Fudge. Her body was found with blunt force trauma to the head on the 100 block of West Travis Street, as reported by KSAT.
Despite a trail of blood leading from a downtown parking lot to her final resting place, the case went cold over the years, with the perpetrator's identity remaining a mystery. Even after local media extensively covered the story and a suspect sketch was released, no substantial leads emerged, as mentioned by the Island Packet.
However, this past May, determined detectives reopened the case, resubmitting the old files and faint prints for analysis. This renewed effort eventually led to a breakthrough when Allen's DNA was matched to evidence collected at the crime scene, bringing the long search for justice closer to its conclusion. After the DNA confirmation in September, an arrest warrant was quickly issued, although Allen was already in custody on other charges, according to San Antonio police.
"A homicide investigation was initiated, but leads were exhausted," police stated, according to the Island Packet, highlighting obstacles that stalled the case for years. It wasn't until the cold case team renewed their efforts and resubmitted fingerprints that they made a breakthrough. The database comparison revealed a match, as confirmed by an email from the SAPD to KSAT.
