The San Antonio Public Library is marking a significant milestone this week, celebrating 10 years of dedicated adult education services through the Learn at SAPL program. Festivities in honor of the anniversary will unfold at Open House events across several branches, offering the community a chance to experience the program’s benefits firsthand, minus the currently renovated Johnston location, as reported by the SAPL news release.
Solidifying its commitment to the local community, Learn at SAPL has been instrumental in delivering customized educational support, having conducted over 9,000 sessions in 2023 and maintaining a strong momentum into 2024, with more than 8,000 sessions already underway. The San Antonio area has seen these Learn Centers truly strive to satisfy each individual's learning objectives, expanding their impact across the region, as illustrated by the increase in the number of participating branches in recent years.
The training officers, central to the Learn at SAPL initiative, are equipped with specialized expertise to work one-on-one with adults. They're prepared to assist with a range of needs beyond basic computer skills, diversifying into areas such as mobile device usage, social service benefits applications, citizenship resources, and language skills development. Group sessions and classes are also tailored to reflect the evolving needs of the community.
Since beginning in 2014, Learn at SAPL has seen its presence grow from four to several more library branches, including a flagship center, evidencing the library system's ambition to broaden and enrich the educational opportunities available to adults citywide. Plans to continue expanding have been articulated, with a new center anticipated to be part of Las Palmas Branch Library's forthcoming reopening, as outlined by the SAPL's recent announcement.
Operational hours are designed to maximize convenience for the public, with centers open various days throughout the week to ensure access to these essential services. The scheduling information, alongside other details about Learn at SAPL's adult education efforts, are accessible through the SAPL website, or one can also reach out to the library staff by phone at 210-207-2500 or online with any queries.
