San Antonio is gearing up for a furry fiesta, as Animal Care Services (SAACS) prepares to host the city's largest pet adoption fair. The Dogtober Fall Festival set for October 26, aims to charm locals into expanding their families with some joyous four-legged friends. This opportunity to connect human hearts to animal companionship will occur at 4710 State Highway 151 from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., with free entry to welcome all.
Prospective pet parents can enjoy a lineup of entertainment and activities, including live music from Texas TikTok star, Haley Anna. The festival also boasts an expansive Fall Paw’p Up market featuring over 40 local small businesses, ensuring that the event is as much a showcase for regional entrepreneurs, as it is a haven for homeless pets. Additionally, visitors can munch on food truck offerings, find their fall spirit, in a pumpkin patch, and snap selfies against fall-themed backdrops.
Adding to the revelry, a pet costume contest and parade is on the docket, promising prize giveaways adjudicated by local celebrity judges. A unique "Passport for Paws" experience will enable attendees to tour the festival's happenings with a shelter dog by their side. As reported on the event page hosted at SAACS's official website, all pets adopted during Dogtober will be sterilized, microchipped with lifetime registration, and given their first round of vaccinations.
The event's adoption specials and exclusive VIP “Early Access” passes offering priority entry and a special Puppies N’ Pilates class with InBalance Studios further incentivize community members to engage early. All aimed at the optimistic goal of finding forever homes for at least 200 pets. For those looking to make the first move, early adoption access and more details are up for grabs on the event's webpage.
