Fans of hearty Mexican breakfast fare can eagerly await the debut of Cocina35's newest branch, set to make a splash at Coronado Ferry Landing. The popular eatery specializing in chilaquiles, a staple featuring tortilla chips generously topped with various meats, salsas, and other accouterments, has been announced to open an expansive 4,500-square-foot location in early 2025. This move comes after the eatery's continuous expansion throughout San Diego, winning over the morning crowds with their traditional Mexican breakfast offerings.

The brainchild of Paulina Chaidez and her brother Cesar, Cocina35 first launched in Otay Mesa in 2012, steadily growing to include locations in downtown San Diego, Barrio Logan, and Liberty Station. The Coronado outlet will mark the fifth in the Cocina35 series, taking over a spot once occupied by Costa Azul until its close in September 2023. This new venture not only promises to continue delivering its beloved breakfasts but may also look to further broaden its dining appeal by extending service hours to include a full bar, which was hinted at in an announcement by SanDiegoVille.

In the spirit of cultivating a consistent culinary experience, Chaidez revealed to San Diego Magazine, "the menu will be the same as Liberty Station with a few customer favorites plus some new ones." The new location will include the brand's signature chilaquiles and other Mexican breakfast classics like egg scrambles and tortas, along with a selection of pancakes, tacos, and burritos. Chaidez's background is deeply entwined with the restaurant industry, following in her restaurateur parents' footsteps, a bit of personal history that adds authenticity to each Cocina35 establishment.

The expansion of Cocina35 to the Coronado Ferry Landing brings more than just delicious food; it represents a personal full circle for Chaidez, who reminisced about her childhood experiences in the area. "My dad used to bring us to Coronado every time we visited San Diego," Chaidez told San Diego Magazine. The new location’s picturesque setting with views of the bay and downtown San Diego may just add another layer of allure to the already successful eatery. The Coronado Cocina35 Brunch will welcome diners from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with an eye on introducing extended late-night summer hours come 2025.
