District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced that a man was convicted of breaking into a San Francisco home and stealing an electric scooter. Mitchell Hoyt, age 34, faced a jury trial that ended with a guilty verdict on charges of first-degree burglary. The San Francisco District Attorney's Office reported the conviction.

During broad daylight on March 15, Hoyt scaled a fence leading to the backyard of a residence on the 3700 block of Market Street. Strikingly, the residents were home during the incident. After jumping into the backyard patio, Hoyt is said to have stolen a motorized scooter from the victims' garage. Two occupants tried to pursue Hoyt as he escaped on the scooter, but he eluded them. The entire event was recorded by a surveillance camera, leaving visual evidence of the crime.

An officer with the San Francisco Police spotted Hoyt on April 16 at the Fisherman's Wharf area, leading to his arrest. The prosecution, spearheaded by Assistant District Attorney Angela Roze, developed their case from the ground up with the help of the San Francisco Police Department’s Central Station's thorough investigative work. Other contributors to the case included District Attorney Investigator Sammy Kim, paralegal Aareona Miles, and IT support Noaeh Pinaire.

Expressing her gratitude to the jury, ADA Angela Roze stated via the San Francisco District Attorney, "San Francisco residents deserve to feel secure in their homes and not have property stolen from them in broad daylight." To communicate the serious treatment of burglaries by her office, Jenkins echoed the sentiment by saying, "The jury’s verdict holds Mr. Hoyt accountable for his crimes and sends a clear message that brazen, broad daylight burglaries will not be tolerated." Hoyt remains in custody, with sentencing scheduled for October 28.
