San Francisco police have taken a man into custody relating to two violent assaults on senior individuals, including a nonagenarian and a disabled gentleman, as per a statement from San Francisco Police Department Chief Bill Scott. Scott described the attacks as "unconscionable," praising officers for their prompt response in apprehending the suspect, as reported by the San Francisco Police Department.
The initial assault occurred on Tuesday morning, when a suspect aggressively attacked a 90-year-old man aboard a Muni bus at Bryant and 3rd streets, striking him multiple times in the head and kicking him once he had fallen to the ground. Despite fleeing the scene before law enforcement arrived, the surveillance video from the scene assisted in the suspect's later identification.
Following the bus incident, another attack was reported around midday, wherein a 68-year-old man who relies on a walker for mobility was pushed to the ground at Cyril Magnin and Eddy Street. Witnesses in the area swiftly reported the incident to the police, which led to a foot pursuit ending in 27-year-old Jahad Antoine's arrest at UN Plaza after officers spotted a man matching the assailant's description.
Antoine, who was apprehended by officers with the help of patrol units, faces a slew of charges, including those related to elder abuse, assault, and previously existing warrant violations. According to the San Francisco Police Department report, he has been booked for resisting or delaying arrest (148(a)(1) PC), elder abuse (368(b)(1) PC), assault likely to produce great bodily injury (245(a)(4) PC) and numerous warrant violations.
