San Francisco's horizon embraces a new silhouette with the recent Star View Court on Treasure Island opening, which added 138 affordable units at 78 Johnson Street to the city's housing stock. Mayor London Breed, joined by city officials and housing advocates, heralded the project as a critical component of the larger vision for revitalizing the island. "We are transforming Treasure Island into a premier, 21st century neighborhood right in the middle of the San Francisco Bay," Mayor Breed said as per the City and County of San Francisco. The Star View Court project encapsulates a shared community goal to effectively blend growth with community interests.
Designed by Paulett Taggart Architects, the building boasts a distinctive layout that integrates housing space with community-centric amenities. Star View Court is the second affordable housing project to be completed. It was developed in collaboration between Mercy Housing and Catholic Charities. With efforts to seamlessly integrate into the surrounding environment, the building features two distinct wings a seven-story section along Seven Seas Avenue and a smaller four-story counterpart facing the Shared Public Way. According to SF YIMBY, the interconnected wings aim to respond to their respective frontages harmoniously.
Further showcasing the city's commitment to tackling homelessness and creating stable housing options, "Star View Court will deliver affordable housing as part of our broader revitalization project that will serve all San Franciscans," noted Mayor Breed. District 6 Supervisor Matt Dorsey also highlighted the transformative nature of the project, saying, "The opening of Star View Court marks a significant milestone as one of the first 100% affordable housing developments on the Island," according to the City and County of San Francisco.
Catholic Charities CEO Ellen Hammerle reflected on the impact of the project, "I have been working at Catholic Charities for nearly 30 years. This is one of my proudest days. There are solutions to homelessness when you dream big and get things done," she told City and County of San Francisco. Mercy Housing continues to deliver property management services actively, ensuring residents have the support they need.
