
The San José Police are investigating a fatal crash from early September, which claimed the life of a woman and became the city's 40th traffic death this year. The crash happened on September 9 at the 1st Street and Gish Road intersection, involving a gray 2006 GMC Sierra pickup truck and a white 2021 Ford Explorer.
According to the police, the pickup truck was traveling southbound on 1st Street when it ran through a red traffic signal and broadsided the Explorer, crossing the intersection on a green light heading westbound on Gish Road. The collision injured all parties, and they were transported to local hospitals for treatment. An adult female passenger inside the GMC pickup succumbed to her life-threatening injuries on Tuesday and was pronounced deceased.
The San José Police Department's release details that the accident occurred at approximately 9:05 AM and that the vehicles were carrying several other occupants at the time of the incident, including two juvenile passengers in the Ford Explorer and two adult males in the GMC pickup, along with the juvenile male passenger and the woman who later died from her injuries.
The Santa Clara County Coroner's Office will release the woman's identity once available. The San José Police Department is actively seeking information from the public regarding the collision.
