As the Scottsdale Police Department embarks on its journey of re-accreditation with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement (CALEA), it's not just going through the motions. The department, holding a CALEA-accredited status since 1994, is seeking the community to ensure its service remains top-notch. On the list, a whopping 462 standards to maintain its badge of compliance — and the public's insight is crucial in painting a true picture of the department's performance.
The process is not taken lightly. Every four years, accredited agencies, like Scottsdale's finest, must prove they've consistently met the high bar set by CALEA. The Scottsdale police aren't shy about this — they've taken to the internet, asking for the community's frank assessments. Anyone with thoughts, be they commendations or concerns, can submit their comments through a direct link on the department's website, hoping it will shape their candidacy for re-accreditation.
The call for public comment kicks off on October 25, 2024. On that day, a CALEA compliance service member starts a thorough file review. Their task is no small feat, spanning the department's policies, operations, management, and essential support services.
