Scottsdale has pulled off yet another enviable feat in the realm of parks and recreation. Solidifying its position at the top echelon of park and recreation agencies across the nation, the city's Parks & Recreation department has earned the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) reaccreditation, as reported by the city's news announcement. This reaccreditation is no walk in the park, mind you; it's a rigorous assessment that less than 2% of departments nationwide can boast having passed.
Imagine keeping a winning streak for 30 years. Well, Scottsdale Parks & Recreation has done just that, maintaining CAPRA accreditation continuously since October 1994. This lands them the title of being the longest-accredited agency in Arizona and also shuffles them into an impressive lineup as one of the top five longest-accredited in all of the United States. In a statement obtained by the city's news outlet, Nick Molinari, Community Services Assistant Executive Director, waxed proud about the reaccreditation, "This achievement highlights our commitment to providing exceptional service and operational excellence in parks and recreation management to Scottsdale."
The city's parks are not just patches of green but hubs of vibrant activity that draw tourists, events, and sports enthusiasts, thus injecting energy (and dollars) into the local economy. With 45 parks, extensive playgrounds, multi-use fields, and aquatic facilities, Scottsdale's portfolio of amenities and programs is as expansive as the Arizona sky. Moreover, the parks system is designed with inclusivity and accessibility in mind, ensuring that services are equitable for all residents, which aligns with the stringent CAPRA standards that emphasize these values.
Getting CAPRA's stamp of approval isn't easy. It involves surpassing over 150 standards that cover the gamut of services, from operations to management. According to the same city news source, Molinari highlighted the significance of this accomplishment, saying, "Scottsdale is honored to be one of the select few to meet CAPRA’s rigorous standards of quality in management, service, and programming." Clearly, the reaccreditation stands as testament to the persistent dedication to excellence that's become a hallmark of Scottsdale's approach to park and recreation management.
