A teenage boy was arrested for an attempted robbery incident in Seattle's West Queen Anne neighborhood but was subsequently released from juvenile detention due to an administrative error. The arrest occurred on Friday following the report of the attempted robbing of a 12-year-old child's bicycle, according to the Seattle Police Department's official blog, SPD Blotter.
Seattle officers were able to quickly develop probable cause and proceed to make an arrest after reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with the victim. The suspect, a 13-year-old boy, allegedly brandished a knife during the incident that took place on school grounds. The SPD Blotter report details how a multilingual officer aided in the investigation by providing translation for the Portuguese-speaking household of the suspect.
The juvenile suspect was booked into the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children & Family Justice Center (CFJC) on charges of robbery. However, the following day, in a turn of events, CFJC staff notified police that the teen was mistakenly released from custody. Without an active arrest warrant from the court, the police found themselves unable to immediately re-apprehend the suspect.
"Detectives with the Robbery Unit have been assigned to this case," according to the SPD Blotter. Current details about the ongoing investigation or the whereabouts of the young suspect have not been disclosed. Authorities are likely to be working on securing an arrest warrant to bring the teen back into the system to face proceedings related to the alleged robbery attempt.
