A semi-truck driver was killed in an accident on Interstate 55 near Ste. Genevieve County. According to FOX 2 Now, Peter Brandt, 48, died after his vehicle went off the roadway and collided with a billboard sign. The incident occurred just after midnight yesterday in the northbound lanes of the interstate, near mile marker 140.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Brandt's 2020 Freightliner Cascadia went off the right side of the road under circumstances that are still under investigation. The crash caused significant damage to the vehicle. While the investigation continues to determine the events leading to his death, MSHP Troop C has not publicly identified any potential contributing factors. This information was obtained from a preliminary crash report, as per KSDK.
Brandt was pronounced dead at the scene approximately 90 minutes following the impact. A KFVS12 report noted that he had not been wearing a safety belt at the time of the accident. The Missouri State Highway Patrol has since notified Brandt's next of kin about the tragedy.
At this time, no other vehicles are known to have been involved in the crash. The cause of the accident is being investigated by MSHP Troop C. The patrol has requested that any witnesses or individuals with relevant information come forward to help clarify the circumstances of the incident.
