A University City High School student has died after sustaining an injury on campus the week before, the district confirmed Tuesday. The student had suffered what officials described only as an accidental injury on Monday, Oct. 5, and died eight days later.
According to FOX 2, the student received immediate medical attention from first responders, including the high school's lead nurse, before being taken to the hospital on the day of the injury. FOX 2 described the injury itself as unspecified in its reporting. The student's age and name have not been released, with the district citing privacy concerns.
Accounts of exactly what happened that day differ. First Alert 4 reported that the student was accidentally injured with a pair of scissors at the high school, an incident that prompted an educational lockdown.
No Foul Play Suspected, District Says
Both the school district and the University City Police Department investigated the incident. Per the district's statement, police do not suspect foul play in the student's death, according to the same FOX 2 report.
The exact cause of death has not been disclosed in any of the available reporting.
