A fatal accident claimed the life of a man in Richland County after his car veered off the road and plunged into a creek Monday night. Louis D. Rittenberry, a 57-year-old from Shelby, was identified as the victim of the tragic incident that occurred near the intersection of Rock Road North and Stein Road. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, as reported by WKYC, Rittenberry's northbound journey was abruptly interrupted when his 2017 Dodge Charger departed from the roadway to the left and ascended an embankment, only to re-enter the road and subsequently plunge to the right, directly into a creek.
Shortly after 9 p.m., the single-vehicle crash quickly brought first responders to the scene. Despite the efforts to save him, Rittenberry was pronounced dead after being transported to Avita Ontario Hospital by EMS. Richland Source's coverage echoed the crash details, adding that the fatal sequence began around 9:19 p.m. The Shelby City Fire Department and Westside Towing were also on-site to assist, as mentioned by FOX8, providing support and clearing the aftermath of the crash.
