Early Tuesday morning, an 18-wheeler was involved in a significant accident on San Antonio’s Southwest Side, reportedly due to slick road conditions. The incident, occurring around 6:15 a.m. in the 9800 block of I-35 South near Loop 410, was highlighted by a truck losing control and causing a perilous scene as the cab broke through a guardrail, as reported by KENS 5.
The truck's tractor part plummeted onto the northbound exit lanes, while remarkably, the trailer portion stayed above on the bridge, this according to San Antonio Police Department. The driver of the sizable 18-wheeler sustained minor injuries and was promptly attended to by EMS responders, who transported him to a local hospital, as stated in a KSAT report.
Traffic patterns were significantly impacted for several hours, with the northbound exit lane closure, redirecting highway travelers and causing delays following the incident. Post-accident operations for cleanup and investigation led by the police remained ongoing into the morning, and all lanes affected by the accident were reopened by just after 10 a.m., as per KSAT. The traffic flow returning to its regular rhythms as the day progressed.
