Last night, patrons expecting the scent of freshly glazed doughnuts were met instead by the acrid smell of smoke as firefighters battled a blaze at KC Donuts, a popular South Austin pastry shop. According to CBS Austin, the fire was reported around 10:45 p.m. at the establishment located in the shopping center on Brodie Lane near Eskew Drive.
The conflagration, which fire officials say was caused because someone had left a deep fryer on after the shop had closed, was extinguished by the Austin Fire Department before it could spread to adjacent businesses. Luckily, the structure was unoccupied at the time of the incident and no injuries have been reported. An update provided by Austin Fire Info on Twitter stated that "Crews have extinguished the fire with no extension to adjacent occupancies."

As firefighters worked to clear the site, only two units remained to help to efficiently remove smoke from the affected area.
Firefighters at the scene reiterated the need to always ensure that all appliances are suitably turned off before leaving such establishments to prevent potential disasters. The disruption caused by the fire also led to traffic advisories, urging people to avoid the area while emergency services managed the situation.
