A Southfield man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a Detroit businessman found dead at his desk last week in Harrison Township. The Macomb County Sheriff's Office disclosed that the 28-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Tuesday, with further details regarding the arrest yet to be released, as reported by WWJ Newsradio.
According to authorities, the victim, identified as 54-year-old Roger Palmer of Detroit, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene inside Immanuel & Associates warehouse, as detailed by WWJ Newsradio. The Macomb County Sheriff's Office had received a call around 6:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 11 after Palmer was discovered unresponsive at his workplace, located near Selfridge Air National Guard Base.
Security footage review by investigators revealed that an unknown male suspect, donning a mask, parked his silver SUV near the business a little after 5 a.m., eventually gaining entry to the building. Palmer had reportedly arrived at work shortly after 6 a.m., and the suspect was seen leaving the scene in his SUV at about 6:20 a.m., driving south on Executive Drive, as noted by The Detroit News.
The intensive investigation into Palmer's death leveraged interagency support, including from the FBI, Michigan State Police, and the U.S. Marshals Service, who worked tirelessly to identify a suspect. However, the Sheriff noted that the motive behind the shooting is still being determined, and details surrounding the incident will be submitted to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office for review later in the week, as per WWJ Newsradio.
