Salem officials have reported the arrest of a Springfield man following a deadly head-on collision that claimed two lives last month. According to a KGW report, authorities took 29-year-old Terrance Harley Quackenbush-Benson into custody Wednesday morning, held at the Marion County Jail on numerous charges, including two counts each of first-degree manslaughter and second-degree assault. Among the charges were also driving under the influence, reckless driving, and four counts of reckless endangerment.
According to details from the Statesman Journal, the September 16 accident involved two pick-up trucks colliding on Cordon Road Southeast in Salem, immediately causing the demise of 28-year-old Blanca Mariela Franco-Ramos and 46-year-old Heriberto Rangel-Rangel. Police responded to the crash that day, finding the two victims had died upon their arrival. After the crash, Quackenbush-Benson and a passenger from each truck were hospitalized with serious injuries.
During the arraignment Thursday morning, Quackenbush-Benson faced a myriad of charges. As it was reported by the scene of the local hospital, a passenger in Franco-Ramos' truck is still receiving care, the seriousness of their injuries necessitating ongoing medical attention. In the hands of justice, Quackenbush-Benson will answer for his role in this tragedy.
