A Springfield man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. Robbie Delgado, 25, will face 40 months behind bars followed by three years of supervised release. This outcome follows his June 2024 guilty plea. Delgado’s indictment by a federal grand jury came earlier in March 2024, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

The sentencing decision, made by U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni, is the latest in a series of legal challenges for Delgado. Following a 2019 state conviction for armed robbery and armed assault with intent to rob in Hampden County, Delgado was prohibited from owning firearms and ammunition, yet on Feb. 8, he was found with a Beretta .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun.

Officials involved in the case include Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy, Jodi Cohen, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Division; Brian A. Kyes, the United States Marshal for the District of Massachusetts; and Springfield Police Department Superintendent Lawrence Akers. Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd E. Newhouse of the Springfield Branch Office handled the prosecution of the case.
