
A carjacking incident occurred in the Benton Park area of St. Louis, where a 32-year-old rideshare driver was attacked and had his vehicle stolen. According to St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the event unfolded around 9:10 p.m. near the intersection of Arsenal and Lemp. The driver reportedly had picked up his assailant in St. Louis County before heading into the city.
The rideshare driver, whose identity was not disclosed, stated to police that upon reaching Arsenal and Lemp the passenger turned against him, seizing his vehicle despite the keys not being in the carjacker's possession, following the altercation, officers found the stolen car, which was left running and abandoned in the 3100 block of Iowa, not long after the reported incident.
The vehicle was subsequently returned to its rightful owner, and while the circumstances of the attack remain under investigation, no further information has been released about the suspect or the sequence of events leading to the carjacking. The investigation into this crime continues as law enforcement seeks to locate and apprehend the perpetrator.
The city has seen a number of similar crimes in recent months, raising concerns among rideshare drivers about their safety, particularly when operating at night, police are asking individuals who might have seen something or have any relevant information to come forward and help in solving the case.
