
As wildfires continue to challenge responders across the region, the Squilchuck Road Fire near Wenatchee has now prompted state intervention, with Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste authorizing state firefighting assistance at the direction of the local fire department. The fire, which ignited on the slopes of Chelan County and was reported by the Washington State Patrol, is threatening homes and critical infrastructure, causing officials to issue Level 3 evacuation orders for at-risk areas.
The blaze, which began on Sunday afternoon and has now engulfed an estimated 25 acres, is aggressively burning through a mix of brush, sage, and timber. Fire Chief Brian Brett of the Wenatchee Valley Fire Department, seeing the need for more resources, reached out for aid, and the state swiftly responded by mobilizing one strike team two hand crews, two dozers, and air resources in response, according to documentation from the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Further complicating the situation, the origins of the Squilchuck Road Fire remain shrouded in uncertainty as investigations are ongoing. In the meantime, the State Emergency Operations Center has been activated to Level 3, a status indicating heightened monitoring and coordination in support of on-the-ground containment efforts, the state's Fire Protection Bureau has acted by ordering additional support, including specialized teams to manage the inflamed regions.
