Pima County has made an interim appointment for the director position at Pima Animal Care Center (PACC). Steve Kozachik, having served the Tucson City Council since 2009, steps into the role starting December 7, according to a recent release by the County. Kozachik previously joined the County administration in March, focusing on special projects such as the Mosaic Quarter project adjacent to the Kino Sports Complex.
His appointment follows the departure of Monica Dangler, who had been with PACC since 2019 and served as its director since June 2021. PACC, known for being Southern Arizona’s largest animal services organization and its only open-admission facility, will benefit from Kozachik’s experience. He brings over three decades of experience from the University of Arizona Athletics Department to his interim role.
"Kozachik will spend the next several months in a listening and learning process in anticipation of a new, permanent director", as per the statement on the County's newsroom. The new director will not only manage operations but also work with local government and the animal care community.
According to the details from the County's Newsroom, Deputy County Administrator Dr. Francisco Garcia is set to lead the selection process for the permanent director, ensuring involvement from representatives across related communities. PACC offers services to a vast and diverse area, catering to unincorporated county regions, various cities, the town of Oro Valley, and the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, and is a sanctuary for those willing to adopt or foster pets ranging from puppies and kittens to dogs, cats, and various small animals.
