Investigators in Stockton are looking into a potential murder-suicide after an elderly couple was found dead in their home with gunshot wounds. An 83-year-old woman and a 76-year-old man were discovered on Friday night on Winding River Circle following a report of a suspicious death from the Stockton Fire Department, as reported by KCRA.
The response to an initial report of a gas leak at the residence led officers to a grim scene, the bodies of Patricia and John McDonald laid next to each other, as later identified by the San Joaquin County Office of the Medical Examiner. The police found the woman with a gunshot wound and surmised the man's wound was self-inflicted. A gun was recovered at the scene, complicating a somber investigation into the last moments of the couple's lives.
ABC10 noted the time of the police's arrival at 7:01 p.m. last Friday. This incident joins a troubling spate of domestic incidents in which firearms play a tragic role, particularly among the elder demographic, a group often less discussed in the context of gun violence.
While details of the investigation remain scarce, authorities have shared that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
