
Authorities confirmed the arrest of Sherles Gregorio Machado-Hernandez after a city-wide manhunt on Monday evening in connection with a double homicide on Burton Drive in North Central Austin. The arrest occurred in the 900 block of Fairfield Drive, as reported by the City of Austin's official website. Support came from multiple units including APD patrol officers, APD Air1, APD Missing Persons, and the APD Violent Crimes Task Force, among others.
Earlier on Monday, the Austin Police Department had quickly responded to a scene where two individuals were tragically found deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. Following the incident, an Amber Alert was issued for three missing children related to the female victim, as per the City of Austin. Thankfully, the children were later found unharmed. Despite the initial alert stating Machado-Hernandez was armed and dangerous, no weapon was found at the crime scene. Further specifics about the arrest and the investigation will be released during a news conference, the timing of which is currently to be determined.
In the initial Amber Alert, the suspect was described as a 31-year-old Hispanic male, around 5’9” tall, and weighing approximately 160 pounds. The Austin Police Department had urged the public not to approach Machado-Hernandez, emphasizing the potential threat by labeling him armed and dangerous, as detailed by the City of Austin.
