
A man has been arrested in connection to an assault involving a firearm in Southwest D.C. The Metropolitan Police Department reported that the incident occurred on September 22, 2024, when officers were called to the 4600 block of South Capitol Street around 9:55 p.m. There, they found a victim who claimed to have been assaulted by multiple suspects after he refused to purchase marijuana from them. According to the victim, the suspects also struck him with a gun before fleeing the scene. The victim was subsequently taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
As the investigation unfolded, police were able to quickly apprehend a suspect. On Friday, authorities arrested 28-year-old Markell Clark of Southeast D.C. He has since been charged definitively with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), seeking to bring some level of justice to bear on the case. Despite this arrest, the investigation by the police department is far from over as they continue to piece together the sequence of events that led to the assault.
The department is urging anyone with information about this crime to come forward. They emphasize that individuals should not take any action on their own but reach out to the police. In an effort to encourage community assistance, the Metropolitan Police Department offers a standing reward—up to $10,000—for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for violent crimes in the area.
