A suspect has been taken into custody in connection to a recent home burglary in Brooklyn Park, as the officials report that the incident occurred on the evening of October 24. Returning residents encountered an armed intruder, which prompted an immediate response from the local police. The situation escalated when the suspect brandished a firearm before fleeing the scene, triggering an extensive but ultimately fruitless K-9 search operation.
Police, working in tandem with Brooklyn Center Police and Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, identified the suspect shortly after the incident, and on October 25 at approximately 5:30 pm, the individual was located and arrested, according to the official police alert. Currently, the suspect is being held at the Hennepin County Jail. Earlier that day, reports had surfaced of a man matching a similar description engaging in suspicious activity near 73rd Ave N, trying doors and peering into windows - activities often associated with casing potential targets for burglary.
Described as a black male, roughly 5'9" to 5'10" with a slim build and a beard, witnesses reported that the suspect wore an all-black hoodie and pants during the break-in. This description closely aligns with earlier accounts given for a man in similar attire, lurking around the 7500 block of Newton Ave N and Meadowwood Dr, where he attracted attention for suspicious behavior.
Following these incidents, and considering the gravity of the situation, Brooklyn Park Police are emphasizing the importance of home security. They implore residents to keep doors and windows locked, and to remain vigilant. In the words of the police statement, "If anyone notices suspicious activity, they are encouraged to call 911 immediately."
