Suspect Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shooting at Oklahoma City Apartment Complex

A fatal shooting at an apartment complex in Northwest Oklahoma City resulted in the arrest of a 26-year-old suspect, authorities confirmed. The Oklahoma City Police Department responded to several reports of gunfire late Friday night in the area around Northwest 19th Street and Minnie Lane, where they discovered 45-year-old Michael Waters shot dead in the parking lot. "Police arrived, found one victim shot here in the parking lot," Sergeant Dillion Quirk of OCPD said in a statement obtained by News9. Waters was pronounced deceased shortly after the police's arrival.

With the city's homicide count rising to 72 this year, surpassing the total of 75 in the entirety of 2023, the gravity of this incidence is felt within the community. A woman, expressing her concern anonymously, disclosed to KFOR that her granddaughters had witnessed the incident, recalling how they were afraid and requested her to pick them up from Parkview Flats. "They were scared," she told KFOR. “She said there was a man dead and I didn’t know. I just told them I’m on my way.” 

Joseph Stewart, the man taken into custody, was arrested by the OCPD on a complaint of first-degree murder following investigative leads. As of this report, formal charges against Stewart have not been announced, though he remains detained at the Oklahoma County Detention Center, according to KOCO 5.
