
Early this morning, a man was hospitalized following a police-involved shooting in Lorain, Ohio, that occurred after a short foot chase. Cleveland19 News reported the incident, initially prompted by a 12:05 a.m. call concerning an alleged vehicle break-in on the 1300 block of W. 17th St. The caller indicated the presence of a gun in the suspect's hand.
Lorain Police Lt. Jacob Morris stated that upon arrival, officers confronted the individual in a driveway, at which point the man fled on foot, leading to a pursuit. Following the foot chase, officers observed the individual with a firearm, and one officer discharged multiple rounds, striking the suspect, noted Lt. Morris in a statement obtained by Cleveland19 News. Police have yet to release the identity of the individual but have confirmed he is being treated for multiple gunshot wounds and faces multiple charges, including aggravated robbery.
According to a FOX8 report, the suspect is stable following the altercation. After the incident, Lorain officers provided first aid until emergency medical services transported the man to Mercy Hospital of Lorain. The account also mentioned that the Elyria Police Department was contacted to lead the investigation into the shooting.
In a press release cited by WKYC, police detailed that responding officers had witnessed what appeared to be a gun in the suspect's hand, which later led to the shooting. The press release purported that more charges may be forthcoming and additional persons may be charged as the investigation progresses. No officers were injured during the incident.
