A Richmond man, Jhon Vanegas Romero, who was the subject of a manhunt in connection with his girlfriend's death, was found deceased in an apparent suicide, according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office. Romero, 24, was discovered hanging from a tree on the 8400 block of Jeske Road in Needville Thursday morning. The ABC13 report notes that officials tentatively identified Romero based on clothing, tattoos, and a passport found with him.
Earlier this week, 23-year-old Anyi Montealegre Izquierdo was found stabbed to death at the home she shared with Romero in the 5400 block of FM 762 in Richmond. The Houston Chronicle reported that the couple's landlord made the grisly discovery. In connection to Izquierdo's death, Romero quickly became a key suspect which triggered an extensive search by local authorities.
The body of Romero was located approximately two miles northeast from where he was last known to be, close to where the vehicle he was driving was also recovered. "At this time, the deceased subject has been tentatively identified as homicide suspect, Jhon Vanegas Romero, 24, based on the clothing he was wearing, identifiable tattoos on his body, and a passport which was found in his clothing," read an announcement by Fort Bend Sheriff's Department, as per the Houston Chronicle.
Subsequent to the discovery, Romero's body has been transported to the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner's Office for a full examination and definitive identity confirmation.
