As Hurricane Milton approaches Tampa, the Tampa Convention Center is closing today and tomorrow due to the storm's risks. The City of Tampa stated that the closure may continue, with decisions about reopening on Thursday, still to be made.
The Convention Center team is preparing for Hurricane Milton by placing sandbags and waterproof covers at the entrances, even though the storm is still miles away. Nearby restaurants, including The Sail Plaza and Big Ray's Fish Camp, will also close until it's safe to reopen.
"Once the storm passes and it is safe for our team to access the property, our Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering team will quickly survey our facility for any potential damage and begin the cleanup process," relayed the Tampa Convention Center team regarding their post-storm game plan, a statement obtained by the City of Tampa.
