
As Tampa begins its recovery from Hurricane Milton, a gratitude assembly was held at Raymond James Stadium, where the Tampa Police Department recognized the efforts of its officers and partner agencies that assisted during the crisis. The event emphasized collaboration and interstate support, with Mayor Jane Castor and Chief Lee Bercaw thanking the officers who traveled from across the state to help the city in its time of need.
According to a news release by the City of Tampa, Mayor Castor expressed appreciation for the comprehensive response, noting that every city employee contributed to the recovery efforts. She also acknowledged the prompt assistance from neighboring regions, highlighting the widespread impact of the disaster and the sense of community that developed. Chief Bercaw similarly conveyed his gratitude, emphasizing the role of visiting officers in enhancing public safety and offering support to local residents.
The gathering at the stadium served as a public recognition of the commitment and dedication of 81 officers from various Florida police departments. These departments, including those from Fort Lauderdale and North Palm Beach, traveled distances of up to 260 miles to assist Tampa during the crisis.
Both Mayor Castor and Chief Bercaw addressed the officers in attendance before they returned to their respective cities. The Tampa Police Department expressed appreciation to the partnering agencies, emphasizing the principle of 'safer together.' These agencies have been recognized for their contributions to the city's recovery and return to normalcy following the impacts of Hurricane Milton.
