
Authorities in Tampa have made an arrest related to the late September homicide that left a 19-year-old male dead from a gunshot wounds. The Tampa Police Department, following what has been described as a thorough investigation involving witness testimonies and video evidence, apprehended 26-year-old Tyree Newsome, as announced in a Tampa Government on their website.
The incident, which transpired on September 23, unfolded on the 1600 block of E. 24th Ave. after 9:00 p.m., where police found the young black male victim lying on the ground. Despite concerted efforts to save his life, the victim, whose identity has not yet been publicly disclosed, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Tampa Fire Rescue.
According to the detectives, the reveal that the shooting stemmed from a previous disagreement that had escalated. Newsome reportedly confronted the victim and another individual earlier in the day, which ultimately led to the fatal altercation. It was during that encounter that Newsome is alleged to have used a firearm to shoot the victim multiple times.
Chief Lee Bercaw commended the dedication of the investigative team, stating, "Our detectives worked tirelessly to bring this suspect to justice." He went on to express his hope that "We hope this arrest will provide the first step toward closure for the victim’s loved ones," a statement obtained by Tampa Government report.
Tyree Newsome is currently charged with First Degree Murder and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. As the case proceeds, he remains behind bars at the Orient Road Jail.
