The Tampa Police Department gathered this afternoon for a final public roll call following an intensive period of hurricane deployments. According to the City of Tampa's official website, the event celebrated the dedication and hard work of the police officers and staff who worked tirelessly during the recent natural disasters.
With notable figures such as Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, Tampa Mayor Jane Castor, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers Foundation’s Darcie Glazer Kassewitz in attendance, the ceremony publicly acknowledged the sacrifices made by the department. Chief Lee Bercaw expressed gratitude towards his team, emphasizing the importance of quickly adapting strategies to effectively respond to emergencies, as reported by the City of Tampa.
While the event was primarily for the police department, community leaders attended to connect the organization to its routine service and protection of Tampa’s residents. The hurricanes required extended law enforcement presence beyond usual duties. Chief Lee Bercaw praised "the officers and professional staff members for their tireless efforts and dedication to the community during back-to-back hurricane deployments." The department is now set to return "to standard deployment," ensuring that regular policing needs continue to be met with the same commitment shown during the emergencies, as stated by the City of Tampa.
