In the wake of Hurricane Milton's approach, the Tampa Police Department has opted to reschedule the 30th Annual Tampa Police Memorial 5K/1-Mile Run-Walk which was initially set for October 12. The decision was announced as the city braces for the impact of the oncoming storm. The announcement was made via the official Tampa Government website.
The Memorial Committee is currently working to quickly identify a new date to host the event, ensuring it continues to honor the legacy of fallen officers while also guaranteeing the safety of participants. Details regarding the new schedule will be released at a later time. As preparations for Hurricane Milton intensify, local authorities are urging the community to prioritze safety and adhere to public safety guidelines, remaining vigilant as the storm progresses.
Held annually, the Tampa Police Memorial Run is not just a race, but a commemorative gathering that reaffirms ties within the community of Tampa. Its history is rooted in remembrance and celebration, and the occasion normally includes activities such as a 5K run, a leisurely 1-mile fun run or walk, alongside communal offerings of food and music, with door prizes being an added touch.
The event plays a significant role in benefitting the Tampa Police Museum, Memorial Scholarship Program, and contributes to other charitable causes including improvements to the Tampa Police Memorial Monument.
