Residents of Tarrant County are being alerted to an uptick in scam calls pretending to originate from the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office. Scammers, allegedly using the guise of law enforcement officers, are contacting individuals with elaborate schemes to extort money. According to a recent Facebook post by the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office, one such scam involved a person claiming to be “Sgt. Walker” who tried to intimidate a resident with a fake arrest warrant, demanding payment at a kiosk to avoid arrest.
The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office has been unequivocal in its warning to the public, stating that they do not call to demand money for warrants, fines, or missed jury duty. The Sheriff's Office doesn't ever ask to suddenly receive payments via kiosks, gift cards, green dot cards, or payment apps like Zelle or CashApp.
With scammers becoming increasingly creative, citizens are urged to be cautious and skeptical of any such phone calls. The Sheriff's Office advises against sending money or sharing personal identifying information if one happens to receive a suspicious call. Any attempts of this nature should be considered potential scams.
